Books and Reviews

2019-20

It is the book I was excited to read for a long time, and the verdict is, it was on point as per the expectations. It states the algorithms and mathematics of the living efficiently- when to leave it to luck, and it’s best to take what we have, answers to most common explore/exploit problems. Few of them, must-know algorithms for me would be
optimal stopping problem(secretary problem)
Bayes’ theorem
Multiarmed bandit problem(Explore/Exploit)
Relaxation- constrains (useful in tricky situations)
and The Game Theory(was almost obsessed reading applications of this)
I made notes along the while reading it, and it took a long time to read it but it was worth it. Brain and Tom made the book reading so easy and understanding the intricate concepts way more fun. Many of the algorithms were related to machine learning, stats, and of course computer science. This book definitely is amongst the richest books I’ve ever consumed. Moreover, it’s especially interesting and helpful for people with Machine Learning or DataScience professions.

Unlimited Power
This is by far the best book live read in my whole life.
Absolutely loved it. No bullshit straight to the point,
motivating, full of value. Each chapter could be derived into a separate book on its own.
I got this book when I needed it the most when
I was going through some health stuff. It consists
of diet, mindset, persuasion,
NLP, and what not! It not only includes reading but a lot of
writing. Writing exercises such as goals and how can I
achieve them, in a much intuitive way then I can explain.
If you can only read-only 1 book in a lifetime, l’d chose this
blindly!

The monk who sold his Ferrari was straightforward, eye-opening, and motivating. I took serious action after reading this book. It outlines the whole principles so simply and the analogy to relate them to life. I am definitely going to read this again.

The Autobiography of
Benjamin Franklin
This autobiography was, to be
honest, verbose, and very
mundane and scholarly. Although
was a long read, it had a lot of
value. I learned a lot from his
daily routine, how he kept a
journaling schedule, and daily
judged himself how he’s done
over the day every day

The account of Elon Musk, how
he turned into the internet guy
during the dot com bubble and
recession, and the hardships that
entail. The tenacity and
perseverance of him with the
spaceX launches and failures are
really inspiring. Loved the book.
Sidenote: it could be shorter, it
could be boring at times.

SIDDHARTA
Unlike the title suggests, it’s not a
very pure and unrelatable
account of Indian kid. I was really
hooked throughout the story and
related a lot. It was a really simple
and straight forward story but
has a really deeper meaning when
you think about it.

Read this book while I was preparing
for Gmat. It’s an amazing guide on to’s
and what not’s during the prep nd the
interview
