Our world has become more divided than was in the past. We cannot speak without being chastised or disparaged. We cannot read without feeling angry or dismissing it as spurious. Amidst all this, to be placid, we can be agonistic and demur the former beliefs or we can look for answer.

 To be resolute with our beliefs with so many contending proponents and information is quandary. I am fervent of lord Shiva and have a very calm and non-reactive temperament. However, when I read a Quora post long time back, where a guy wrote Shiva doesn’t exists and there’s no prove of any god other than lord Krishna, I felt the indignation and consternation in me, I wanted to write invective response to it. I didn’t but the thoughts surrounded me for the next few days and nights. This is just an example of what is happening against many of the religions and even sub-religions like in my case. To peruse I followed my thought patterns and to find out what was behind those thoughts, because I couldn’t believe God – someone who loves us, cares for us and is infinitely intelligent being- in any religion would want schism in his devotees.

The only source of our beliefs is the information we infer from the pious texts of whoever we believe in. Its either us or infer or the cult preachers. Cult preachers mold the texts to make us infer what ever way they can gain the strong devotion of their devotees. Such as The terrorists preach jihaad so that they will be able to attain Jannah (heaven) after they do their “good deeds”.

Whereas “The use of the term “jihad,” however, is one of the most misunderstood aspects of Islam. When some Americans picture the word jihad, they imagine a so-called “holy war” by Islamic militants, waging terror against civilians using suicide bombings and other extreme methods.

The Islamic concept of jihad, however, is usually not one of violence.

The Arabic word is often translated as “holy war,” but its true meaning is actually “holy struggle.”  In a religious sense, as described by the Koran and the teachings of the Prophet Mohammed, jihad means striving for the benefit of the community or the restraint of personal sins. It can refer to internal as well as external efforts to be a good Muslim or believer. It primarily refers to efforts to improve oneself. “

Similarly, the people are brainwashed by different cults or even family and friends who were who had gone through akin process. That’s why there’s a lot of divisions among religions, and even sub divisions amongst religions. So, what are we missing?

The purpose of these divine texts was neither to preach one’s religion or god over other nor to postulate superiority of Greek gods over Jesus and likewise.  The common purpose is to teach how to live, what values and virtues one should have. Contrary to popular belief, the afterlife may not have sub divisions of different religions or worshippers go to.

So then why do we have all the tons of communities and religions?

I believe, Human beings are emotional beings they are derived from emotions they work on emotions. We have different stories and incidences of different divine beings so that we can relate to one or feel the affinity to one over the other. And That’s okay! The purpose behind that is to understand the values to feel the empathy for others, spread unconditional love. In Hinduism, the gods, Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu pray to each other. They don’t accept the love from the devotee’s if one pray’s to one god and hates the other. Even in the ramayan, Lord Ram states many times, The God will take care of everything, He’s the creator, we must pray to god. Like wise Shiva doesn’t accept their devotees if they hate Lord Shiva. This means the god is one, all these forms are assumed so that we can understand him in any form we can relate to. If we all understand the deeper meaning of this and the love from the creator we can be free from all the sub divisions we just created in our society.
